Galileo Galilei was born on 15 February 1564 in Pisa, Italy. He was the first of 6 or 7 children in his family. Initially studying medicine, Galileo later shifted his focus to mathematics and philosophy. He gained a reputation as a brilliant mathematician and became a lecturer at Pisa University.
