The First Germanic Sound Shift, also known as Grimm’s Law, is an unconditioned sound change that affects all Indo-European stops in the Germanic languages. It was first recognized by the Danish linguist Rasmus Rask, who demonstrated the significance of laws of sounds as proof of linguistic kinship. Jacob Grimm later deepened and systemized Rask's observations, leading to the naming of this sound shift after him.
